Ingredients
2 ½cupsall-purpose flour
1tablespoonplus 1 teaspoon
baking powder
½teaspoonbaking soda
¾teaspoonsalt
¼cupplus 2 tablespoons butter
or shortening
1cupbuttermilk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; Mix well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto floured surface; knead three or four times.
Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness; Cut with a 2 ½-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450°F for 10 minutes or until tops are golden.
