Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs separated
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 3 teaspoons water
  • 1 package chocolate chips
  • 1 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • Sift together the first four ingredients and put to the side.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter with the ½ cup brown sugar and white sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, vanilla and 3 tablespoons of water. Add dry ingredients ¼ at a time. Spread dough into a baking pan and sprinkle chocolate chips over the dough.
  • In a clean mixing bowl beat the two egg whites to soft peaks. Add the remaining 1 cup of brown sugar and beat to stiff peaks. Spread over chips and bake at 325°F for 30 minutes or until the meringue is light and browned on top and a knife comes clean out of the dough.
