Buttermilk Biscuits
Not sure how many of these Kay has made but I am sure it is well in the thousands! Thank you Mommasita!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon
- baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons butter
- or shortening
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; Mix well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto floured surface; knead three or four times.
- Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness; Cut with a 2 ½-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450°F for 10 minutes or until tops are golden.
